Discover a captivating family-friendly adventure with UNIQLO Tate Play, an engaging art trail led by Mildred, Tate Liverpool’s beloved gallery cat. This special activity invites children and families to explore the enchanting Royal Albert Dock area while hunting for six carefully positioned images of artworks. As you meander through the historic inner quay, this delightful trail encourages a playful interaction with art and surroundings, making cultural engagement accessible and fun for young visitors aged 7 to 11.

Visitors can collect a free Art Trail booklet from Tate Liverpool and RIBA North at Mann Island, which provides a detailed map to guide explorers through the dock on a self-led journey. This booklet not only points out the specific locations of Tate artworks but also includes creative prompts and space for children to create their own masterpieces, fostering imagination and artistic expression in a supportive environment. There’s also an educational twist — the presence of five letters close to the artworks can be rearranged to form a secret word, adding a layer of wordplay to the experience.

This initiative is inspired by the treasured children’s book about Mildred the Gallery Cat, available in the Tate shop, which brings Mildred’s charming persona to life beyond the gallery walls. The trail perfectly blends activity with art, encouraging families to spend meaningful, quality time together while remaining active and creatively engaged. Mildred’s love of art and word games makes her the perfect guide for this interactive journey through Liverpool’s cultural heart.

The experience is designed with accessibility in mind. Tate Liverpool is temporarily operating from RIBA North at Mann Island, which offers step-free access and lifts. Facilities such as toilets are conveniently located, and supportive measures like ear defenders and additional seating are available to accommodate visitor needs. While the trail covers cobbled and Yorkstone-paved areas — characteristic of the Royal Albert Dock — it remains a welcoming outdoor adventure.

Bring your pencils and sense of curiosity, and immerse yourself in a free and inspiring family activity that seamlessly combines art appreciation, history, and creative play. For more information and to plan your visit, please see the official page: UNIQLO Tate Play at Tate Liverpool.
